![]() (btw, yay, no more password.) As most of every american currently knows, one of the hottest topics in the country right now is whether or not gays should have the right to marry. Shall we take a look at the definition of marriage? Mr. Webster, if you please? mar·riage (mrj) n. 1. The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife. The state of being married; wedlock. 2. A common-law marriage. 3. A union between two persons having the customary but usually not the legal force of marriage: a same-sex marriage. The dictionary lists "marriage" as being a union between same-sex couples. So why can't our constitution? For as much of Civics as I remember, I do recall this thing about separation of church and state. And I believe the biggest problem with this issue is coming from a religious stand point. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian. But our CONSTITUTION, in simpler terms, states that our religious beliefs shall not govern...well, our government and vice versa. I am a Christian, yes. And while I have friends--whom I love with all my heart--who are gay, I do believe their lifestyle is sinful. But they are no worse--and no less likely to get into heaven--as I am as a sinner. No one sin is any worse than any other. As such, no one has the right to tell them they are going to hell just because they're gay and any radical idiot who does so should go look in the mirror and pronounce the same damnation message to themselves for being a hypocrite. That being said, I believe that homosexuals have just as much right to declare love and eternal companionship through lawful marriage. They should have all the same rights as heterosexual married couples (insurance, taxes, medical decisions, etc). It's not right to tell these people that they cannot lawfully marry because they are the same sex. Telling gays they are not allowed to marry is just the same is telling them that they are second-class citizens and do not deserve the same happinesses in life as the rest of us. It's just as bad as racism. And for the president--the head of our country--to denounce the gay right to marriage is ... well dammit, it's not fair nor right. Homosexuals are citizens of the country he heads as well. They vote and contribute their taxes just like heterosexuals. So give them the right to marry! And all the stipulations that come therein. *puts soapbox away* That being said, I think I'll go copy it into my public blogger! Later days, Mads |
